ADS-L / One Open Standard for Everyone

The sky keeps getting busier. Every aviation user needs the ability to detect other aircraft and be detected by them, regardless of equipment brand or type. To stay safe we need open, interoperable technology – not closed, proprietary protocols. That is why we have joined the EASA‑led ADS‑L Coalition. ADS‑L is a single, license‑free standard that replaces today's fragmented patchwork of incompatible systems and reduces costs for everyone.

Open standards already power the modern world. Thanks to globally standardized protocols such as Wi‑Fi, LTE, TCP/IP and SMS, an iPhone can call, text or email an Android phone without either user needing to know about the other's device. We want the same seamless interoperability in the air.

Before the end of May 2025, we will release a free radio‑firmware update including ADS-L, Fanet and Flarm for:

  • XC Tracer Maxx II

  • XC Tracer Mini V

After the update, your vario will also:

  • Transmit ADS‑L OUT – broadcast your position

  • Receive ADS‑L IN – display nearby traffic on your screen or in your flight app

XC Tracer Maxx & XC Tracer II FLARM rely on their built‑in FLARM module. ADS‑L support will become available once FLARM releases a firmware update that includes ADS-L. Until then, XC Tracer Maxx and XC Tracer II FLARM units won't be able to use ADS‑L.

We actively support Project OCAP, an initiative to create an open Collision Avoidance Protocol. As part of this project, we're conducting test flights with paragliders, motor‑gliders, and aerobatic aircraft. EASA plans to incorporate OCAP's results into future ADS‑L enhancements.

Open standards gave us the internet and the smartphone revolution. Now, through ADS-L, they will help create safer, simpler and more affordable aviation for all pilots. Watch for our upcoming firmware release – and fly safe!
