One Year of Maxx III

We delivered the first Maxx III units one year ago. A good moment to take stock.

The Maxx III is developed by us in Switzerland and is also largely manufactured here. Many of its components come from Switzerland or neighbouring European countries. We only source components from Asia when no suitable alternative is available.

Circuit board assembly, injection moulding of the plastic parts, bonding the display and protective glass to the housing, as well as final assembly, calibration and the final inspection of every individual device—all of these steps are carried out entirely in Switzerland. This allows us to maintain direct control over quality throughout the entire manufacturing process.

A variometer has to withstand a great deal: low temperatures at high altitude, heat inside a car or at the launch site, and the occasional drop. The Maxx III has performed extremely well during its first year. Since the first units were delivered in summer 2025, only three devices have had an electronic failure. One further device had a broken display. Considering the demanding conditions in which the instruments are used, this confirms the high reliability of the Maxx III.

The firmware is also being continuously developed. Firmware R10 introduced features including live XC calculations, the new Wind & XC screen and Quick Setup. Further improvements and functions are already in development. All firmware updates are free of charge and can be installed via Bluetooth using our web app at my.xctracer.online.

Despite its extensive range of functions, the Maxx III remains easy to use. Quick Setup configures the device in no time — depending on your needs, in just a few seconds. This makes the Maxx III suitable for everyone—from beginners looking for a straightforward instrument to professionals aiming to achieve the best possible performance in competition.

A variometer accompanies a pilot for many years and hundreds of flights. Ease of use, reliability and continuous development provide more lasting value than a low purchase price.
